The research initiative "Developmental Disorders of Scholastic Skills" (Entwicklungsstörungen schulischer Fähigkeiten) prompted by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF)), is an initiative in the context of a general program to promote empiric educational research.

This research focus supports empiric orientated projects which contribute to giving children, adolescents and adults who are affected with disorders in the fields of reading, spelling and calculating, an individual, cause-related diagnosis and an evidential based support.

Nationwide there are twelve projects (four cooperative and eight single projects) belonging to this focus of research.

The coordination center ESF will allocate the professional-organizational and technical requirements for professional mutual assistance and close collaboration between the funded projects in the area of "cause-related individual diagnosis and intervention concerning defined disorders of development of scholastic skills" in the context of the initiative of the BMBF to promote empiric educational research.
